About: No Vice Ice is a brand new Community Interest Company working to create space for conversations around food, health and sustainability for people living with long term health conditions that could be invisible to the naked eye.
Work: Katy and Ella came to me in need of a logo design for their new company, No Vice Ice, as well as some initial label designs for their first two ice lolly products.
NVI have created a line of delicious ice lollies made from 100% local fruit; no sugar, nothing nasty, just fruit. Wherever possible this fruit is sourced from local farms, where they buy the less aesthetically pleasing fruit that otherwise may have gone to waste. The income generated from selling these lollies is then put into creating and facilitating workshops for people to share their experiences and ideas around the nexus that exists between food, health conditions and the environment. NVI are hoping to create a new line of nutritionally alternative lollies that are designed through these collaborative workshops or ‘Lolly Labs’ for specific health conditions such as diabetes and epilepsy.

“Working with Chels has been both exciting and incredibly easy; she responded immediately to our initial request and has been 100% available and transparent throughout the process. She’s the perfect mix of a designer who is fresh, enthusiastic and ‘plugged in’ to contemporary branding conventions whilst also having the maturity and experience to guide us as her clients through the journey towards creating a brand identity that we are completely delighted with. The choice of which designer to trust with your branding is a difficult one as it is such an important element of any company and will dictate your identity to the world. In our first conversations with Chels, she was all ears; she listened hard to what we were expressing about the nature of our organisation and she asked perceptive questions to get to the nuances of what we were and weren’t saying. She researched our competitors, came prepared to every meeting with suggestions and ideas to move us closer to the ideal end point and there was never any discomfort or difficulty in our communication when we were giving feedback. When we came to the table after our initial consultations, Chels laid out an array of designs she had created to help us start to shape up our ideas of what direction to go in, she then supported us to make requests and ‘play with’ the logo, coming back to other designs frequently until we knew we had the bones of the right brand. There was never any impatience or coercion, just ultimate freedom to find out what was going to work under her expert guidance. Chels certainly is very talented in the design capacity which obviously is essential, but I was more impressed with her genuine desire to get us to where we wanted to be with the branding – she was just as excited as we were when we hit upon a new element to try out and the pride she takes in her work is 100% justified. She was flexible and worked around our timeframes but also kept to her own deadlines fastidiously, she was transparent and always in contact with us, she’s passionate about design and will not settle for something that is less than perfect for your organisation. Ultimately I really can’t rate or recommend Chels highly enough.”
